The 2012 Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) ThinkLab conference took place April 30-May 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. As the only gathering of lab managers focused on lab operations and management, patient care and medical best practices, and billing and advocacy, the annual ThinkLab is a valuable educational event for supervisors, directors and managers of clinical laboratories.
Attendees had the opportunity to connect with more than 100 vendors on the exhibit hall floor while not attending one of a plethora of educational sessions. Last year, the CLMA introduced its Body of Knowledge as a way of organizing sessions into 10 important areas for lab managers. This year, each session was aligned with a particular area within the Body of Knowledge, making it easy for lab professionals to focus on their educational needs.
Laboratory and interpersonal effectiveness expert Nancy Riesz delivered the keynote presentation, "Living and Leading from the Inside," with the goal of helping attendees see things in new ways and leverage their own personal strengths to make a positive impact on others, from employees and coworkers to their facility and even their profession.
Other sessions focused on efficient lab operations and change management; improving laboratory profitability and quality; working (and succeeding) with cross-functional teams and multiple generations; new laboratory management systems; advocating for your laboratory to get what you need; and patient care, safety, and an improved custom service experience.
The Certificate Center where attendees can redeem their CE credits is live now at the CLMA website.
