ThanksPinning Winners Announced

ADVANCE asked you to get into the holiday spirit and express why you're thankful for your career in healthcare

This past Thanksgiving, ADVANCE asked you to get into the holiday spirit and express why you're thankful for your career in healthcare. The catch? We wanted you to show more than tell by using your Pinterest account to create a board highlighting what it is that makes you thankful for and passionate about your career.

Once the submissions were in, a panel of ADVANCE judges ranked each board based on creativity, originality and inspiration. The only guidelines were that each board be titled "My Rewarding Career", and each pin needed to include the contest name, ThanksPinning, as a hashtag.

Among the hundreds of submissions we had the pleasure of reviewing, we saw it all. Whether it was mentors or co-workers who inspire you, patients you connect with, awards you've won, or moments that made all your hard work worthwhile, seeing what motivates you in your career reminded us about what drives us in our own work: helping dedicated healthcare professionals like you be the best they can be!

And the Winner Is ...
Choosing a winner was no easy feat, but in the end the participant with the highest score was Jaime Medlock! Jaime truly captured the aspects of her career that she was most proud of and most thankful for with a wide variety of 25+ pictures. These photos depicted all kinds of activities-from community service and fundraising events to contests and celebratory events.

As a professional who works in long-term care, it's clear that Jaime is dedicated to creating a fun and stimulating environment for the residents at her facility. Her Pinterest board was filled with activities and outings, costumes and personal care that go above and beyond her job description (like helping a patient print out photographs of her long-distance family). Jaime's creativity and originality, both on and off the job, resulted in her winning entry and a new Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP DSLR camera! Check out Jaime's ThanksPinning board.

Our ThanksPinning contest also had two runners-up in Sheryl McCloud and Melanie Hutti, both of whom won Aluratek eight-inch high-resolution digital photo frames. Beginning with a picture of her mother, the person who inspired Sheryl to pursue a nursing degree, her board was a reflection of some of the most memorable steps in a 30-year journey as a nurse. The many pictures of Sheryl with her coworkers show her commitment to giving the best possible patient care through teamwork, and the many awards and tokens of gratitude she has been given by teachers, team members and patients alike attest to her skills as an RN and a leader. Sheryl also included pictures that represented her willingness to educate and give back to the next generation of healthcare providers. Visit Sheryl's board to view all of her pins.

Melanie's submission attracted our attention because of the many action shots she included of herself and the students she works with as an OT. Her many depictions of fieldtrips, engaging school projects and adventures with her kids demonstrated Melanie's belief in learning through playing, as well as her dedication to making her kids smile throughout the day. Whether her kids are climbing all over her or making comedic faces for the camera, it is clear that they are as thankful for Melanie's hard work as she is for their presence in her career. Melanie's board also included artistic depictions of the wide range of activities her students perform, accompanied by detailed descriptions that leave no doubt in your mind the love Melanie has for her career.
